Submission Guidelines

Hello! Thank you for your interest in Angime!

We are currently CLOSED FOR SUBMISSIONS due to restructuring.

Angime accepts submissions in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and visual arts. While we are particularly interested in works that engage with Central Asia and the post-Soviet sphere, we also welcome submissions that frame a conversation between multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary perspectives.

Please note:

  • All work needs to be submitted with a cover letter introducing the author and the submission(s), and must be emailed.

  • All manuscripts should follow standard manuscript formatting requirements.

  • For length requirements, please consult specific guidelines for each section.

  • We accept simultaneous submissions but ask to be notified if your work is placed elsewhere.

Poetry

Submit 4-6 poems at a time. Send us your best work. Include your name, email, and telephone number in the header of each page. To withdraw individual poems, please contact the poetry editors directly.

Submit work in English or Russian to: angime.poetry@gmail.com

Fiction

We seek writers who tell their truth in a distinct voice and capture our attention like no one else can. We want to set your story down and start talking about it to friends, loved ones, neighbors, the homeless we pass on the street. We are excited to hear voices from every socioeconomic and geographical background. Unfortunately, we do not consider previously published work in any language. Nor are we looking for fiction that is primarily speculative in nature. Under 5,000 words is best. Please do not submit any work over 7,000 words.

Non-Fiction

We are interested in all genres of creative nonfiction -- memoir, travelogues, and criticism that engages with culture, science, philosophy, and public affairs. Hybrid genres are also welcome. While willing to make exceptions for work that merits it, we generally favor essays that stay under 5,000 words. Please send one piece at a time, and make sure to include your contact info on the file and within the essay.

Translations

Submit translations of previously untranslated works (prose, poetry or nonfiction). New translations of previously translated works will be considered in special cases. Limit poetry translations to 4-6 poems and prose and non-fiction translations to 5,000 words. In your accompanying letter, comment on how your translation enters into conversations within the culture into which you are translating and, briefly, on your methodology. We prioritize translations between English, Russian, and Kazakh, but translations from other world languages into Russian and Kazakh will also be considered.

Kazakh Submissions

We are looking for poets, translators, and fiction and non-fiction writers who are pushing the boundaries of language and storytelling. Please limit your submissions to 7,000 words for fiction and non-fiction and 3-5 poems for poetry.

Submit all Kazakh-language work to: angimekazakh@gmail.com

Visual Arts

Our art content is not theme-based. We encourage artists to submit works in conversation with Angime’s mission.

We accept all media: paintings, drawings, prints, photography, and comics. We also accept mixed media, collage, and sculpture, which must read well in print form. We will consider all content and styles. Artists, submit 3-5 images of your work. Suggested file types: TIFF, PDF, JPG, PNG.

 Include in your submission:

  • Title of each image

  • Media and size of each image

  • A 50-75 word bio

Submit all art to: angime.visualart@gmail.com

Hybrid/Experimental Works

We welcome experimental works and works that blend boundaries between genres, art forms, and languages. Please submit your work to the category you think it fits best.

If you’re unable to decide, submit a query to our main email: angimejournal@gmail.com
