Dariya Talasbayeva
My name is Dariya and I come from Almaty. I'm twenty one and still figuring out who I want to be. When I'm not writing, I study economics and linguistics, skateboard, sip wine while contemplating my future prospects or tease my grumpy cat with a laser pointer.
For the first nineteen years of my life, I've been scared of writing. "Perestroika" is my first completed short story that I created last spring during the Creative Writing course under the supervision of Prof. Mariya Deykute. The story reflects on and overshadows the problem of the generation gap in the post-Soviet world. This is the world where traditions are protected for the sake of nostalgia yet bear the thickness of an eggshell, with each new crack exposing the inconvenient reality.
